Hello All,
My name is Christie Black and I am the school counselor at Oliver Elementary and Mt. Olive Primary. My goal is to help promote student success in the areas of academic, career and personal/social development. I present large group classroom guidance lessons on a bi-weekly basis on the following topics: bullying, conflict resolution and social skills, self esteem, test anxiety, etc. In addition, I provide crisis intervention, short-term individual counseling and small group counseling per teacher, student, parent request, or on a as need base. As school counselor it is my role to advocate for students and assist administrators, teachers, staff and families. I also desire to encourage, empower, and equip them with a good self-esteem and self-confidence to do great things. It is truly my mission: To help them to be the best them that they can be!!!!
Educationally/Professionally: I have a BS from Morris Brown College, MS from Troy State University, and recently received my doctorate in Counselor Education and Supervision from Argosy University. I am also licensed as a counselor in the state of Georgia and certified as a school counselor in Georgia and Alabama. One noteworthy accomplishment was in 2011-2012 I was awarded the Super Certified Support Staff Award for the district. In addition, I have worked in the area of counseling for the last 12 years and loved every minute of it!!!
Personally: I am newly married and of course spend the majority of my free time with him!!! I am also a Christian and I enjoy reading, writing, listening to music, spending time with family, and travelling. One last personal note I love building up our next generation and am committed to being a lifetime learner!!!
